Contribution toward climate protection

Climate protection projects are a key component in efforts to achieve global climate protection targets. Until such time as the University of Bern is able to sufficiently reduce its emissions, it will make a positive contribution toward climate protection in an amount that is equal to its unavoidable emissions. A mix of measures is planned that consists of both the purchase of carbon offset certificates and other alternatives (including projects connected to the Engaged UniBE initiative, idea contests, etc.); in some cases, the ability to recognize these measures in the carbon footprint is limited. In the long term, C-sink projects and/or negative emission technologies will play a growing role since the only way to permanently cancel out any unavoidable emissions is by sequestering CO2eq from the atmosphere.
